OUR GOALS AT HERD CLIMATE

Accelerate impactful emerging technologies and supporting training opportunities for students and scientists in enteric methane research
-
Supporting scientists in their early career is essential for building a passionate scientific community with the drive and passion for change.
-
By supporting academic research groups, we begin to fill the gaps in our knowledge of enteric methane, allowing us to develop new and innovative ideas and methods of tackling methane.
-
By having access to internships as early as a-level, we allow these young scientists to explore their career in climate research, building key skills all while building a strong CV further encouraging young scientists to join the fight against climate change.
-
Science is a contact sport reliant on peer engagement, we want to set up this new generation of scientists for success by building students' confidence. Including students in conferences teaches students how to present information clearly in this formal setting.
-
Enteric methane encompasses many science disciplines, creating opportunities for training across this range of disciplines will further help to build up expertise in the field of enteric methane research.
-
Farmers are constantly gaining knowledge on the biological processes of enteric methane and seek out training to better help manage their farms and practices. If we provide training for on-farm management practices it will not only benefit animal and profit efficiency on farms, it will also benefit the community by providing safe climate positive animal products while continuing to break the barriers of misinformation between the farmers and consumers.
Promoting social awareness and engaging and growing community action for climate change
-
We want to create an online community platform community that we can provide with up to date, impartial information describing what enteric methane is and its global impact to greenhouse gas emissions.
-
We want to empower individuals and communities to value their contributions to global impact by planning community-centered activities.
-
Climate cafes to start engaging conversations between the consumers, farmers, and scientists. This creates opportunities to spread information, opportunity to voice concerns and provides a venue for Q&As.
-
School activities and engagement both online and on-site by giving short talks and demonstrations to promote early climate awareness while fostering opportunities to develop positive mentalities and behaviors towards being climate friendly.
-
Networking directly with farmers will allow us to understand their needs and practices which as of now is a critical gap in the climate space. often times emerging research and methods are not optimised for the real life on-farm reality, not only delaying production, but also increasing the already large disconnection between the farmers and the urban communities. This leads to misconception on quiality and price, and by connecting these communities of consumers, farmers, with scientists, animal nutritionists, and regulators, Herd climate will jumpstart discussions and raise awareness to: Safety concerns, emerging technologies, and building trust across consumers and producers.
-
Farmers provide food for an increasingly populated world, being the first to feel the impact of climate change. Now, for farmers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, the solutions for reducing enteric methane emissions need to be affordable, safe to animal health, and viable for on-site use on the farm to maintain productivity.
We want farmer engagement to be our main focus of our activities so we can work together and create awareness and trust between communities Our activities will focus on: Education of enteric methane by consumers, conveying complex scientific concepts in simple and relatable narratives, and outreach to animal product companies towards key actions surrounding sustainability to reinforce trust in consumers.
